A project initiated by some of our regular volunteers, this project investigates harnessing wind, solar and water power to create more sustainable energy solutions.
A generous and able young FGCG volunteer working with his Grandad has got us a good part of the way there by donating a bicycle wheel complete with Sturmey-Archer Dynohub and what seem to be very efficiently interlaced fans to catch the wind. In the recent high winds its speed of rotation was amazing and although difficult in the wind we were able to prove it generated AC current by bridging the hub terminals with a small torch bulb. WE continue to experiment with location and are looking into how to store the energy generated in a battery…
